FAQ

On this page you'll find some of the more (or less) frequently asked questions.

Table of Contents

General

  1. Who has made this site?
Well, I did. Although I'm not a web-designer, I occasionally build a site, like this one for instance.
  2. Why do you keep changing its format and structure?
After some time I get bored by its design or its structure. Most of the times I decide to re-design the whole thing from scratch.
  3. So, why did you change it then this time?
Because I wanted to abandon PHP and use Perl as scripting language. I feel much more comfortable with Perl than with PHP.
  4. You've written a document I like, can I ... ?
Basically, I do not mind if you use material from this site. Hey, I've made it for that purpose! If you want to use material from this site, I'd like you to refer to me as original author. If you drop me a mail with your URL, I'll link to your site.
  5. I've found a broken link! What should I do?
Please report it to me by mail, see the contact page for that.
  6. Sometimes I see a page with {WD} in its title. What does that mean?
Well, I use it as an indicator to denote that page is a “Working Document”, or a document that is still been worked on.
  7. Your site does not look like it is easy to print. How can I print it?
I've written this site using as much of todays standards as possible. That is, this site is valid XHTML 1.1 and CSS. The latter provides functionality to format your documents for different media, like displays or printers. So, all you have to do is simply hit the print button of your browser and it will spit out a printer-friendly version of my site!

Personal

  1. Do I know you?
Possibly, I wander the surface of this earth for almost a quarter of a century, so it is very likely we've met sometimes :-)
  2. Again, such a weird name!
The name is an abbreviation of the first two letters of my name: ``Ja n Wi llem''. I use it as screen name for almost everything.
  3. So, what's your real name then? Jan or Willem?
Actually, they both my real name! My full name not “Jan”, not “Willem”, but “Jan Willem” (you actually write it with a space, not a hyphen).
  4. But, who are you, really?
    Since you asked:
